Minimum
Entry Criteria for Diaconate Formation
Below is a
listing of the basic standards of eligibility to enter Diaconate
Formation. Some of the requirements can be waived by the
Archbishop on an individual basis. There is no guarantee that
a
requirement will be waived.
REQUIREMENTS THAT
CANNOT BE WAIVED
1. Must be male
2. If married, have wife's consent/permission to enter the
formation program
3. Be Roman
Catholic in full communion with the Catholic Church
4. Be at least 35
years of age at the date of ordination
5. Single or if married, be in a marriage recognized and
blessed by the Catholic Church
6. If divorced and
remarried, have the appropriate Declaration of Nullity (annulment)
papers for each spouse
7. High School
Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate
8. Have no impediment or irregularity to ordination (a list is

REQUIREMENTS THAT
CAN BE WAIVED BY THE ARCHBISHOP
1. Not
have reached the 62nd birth date for program entry and not 66 years
old at ordination
2.
Practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church for at least 5
years (wife is excluded from this)
3. If
married, in a stable relationship for at least 5 years.
4. Be
financially self-supporting
5. Be
a U.S. citizen or a properly documented legal immigrant (Green Card)
6.
Have the intent to remain in the Archdiocese for at least 4 years
after ordination
7. Be
a registered member of a parish within the Archdiocese for at least
2 years
8.
Have a history of both church and community service
9. Be
supported and endorsed for formation by the pastor of the parish
where registered.
10. Be capable of
college level academic study.
11. If married,
wife must be willing to accompany husband through all aspects of
Diaconate formation
12. Successfully
complete all aspects of the selection process
